TRASH Picnic 2009

Posted in

I hope this thread gets a lot of activity, we want to hear from all of you on the Picnic, ideas, gripes, suggestions.

Right now we are looking at possible dates and locations. We have a nice private campground north of Pittsburgh that would fit our needs nicely, but it is not available in September. What about a August Picnic ? We are looking at Aug 22 or 29. We have had about the same attendance in past years either month, both month's are busy.

Once we have the date pinned down and campground confirmed there will be more info coming, I hope this happens soon.

Faecbook a good place for Photos

Hey Everyone,

If you are having trouble posting your TRASH Picnic photos, please visit the Facebook site and post there.

I'll upload them to the TRASH Site.

Thanks!!!!

Picnic Video

Does anyone know how to get ahold of Ed Bloom? I remember him taking a bunch of video during the picnic.

Looking for photos

Hey gang,
If anyone has any photos from the picnic and/or brewfest, please email them to me!

A great day for a picnic!

What a great day. If you missed the Brewfest and the TRASH picnic, SHAME on you!. Congratulations and Thanks to Mark and his crew of helpers who made our annual picnic a success. Thank you to Paul Devine who brewed the steinbeer with me. My portion is happily bubbling away next to the cream ale I hope to keg today. I think it would be nice to do this again if Coopers Lake has another Brewfest. It seemed to have worked well.

New Picnic Date

I talked to Mark last night and it seems we're leaning toward Aug 22 again. The guy at Breackneck Campground can't change the date. I guess now the discussion will be location.

We were invited by the owner of Coopers Lake Campground to participate in a homebrewing event he is hosting at his campground on the 22nd. I'm pretty sure Mark said we would have our own area to do all of our TRASH type stuff, but we would also be part of the event (making homebrew, answering questions, etc.) It might be a pretty sweet deal. That event would attract a number of non-TRASHers that we might be able to recruit in to the club. Certainly something to kick around!

The "For Coopers Lake" side

At the June meeting I was leaning more towards having the picnic at Breakneck. A lot of us "old timers" were thinking we should keep the picnic a TRASH only thing. But now I'm thinking "What a great recruiting tool this could be!"

There have been discussions ad nauseum on how we can attract more new members. I think particpating in an event like this would be perfect. Granted we don't want to be feeding and beering (if that's a word) a horde of people but with this event it seems like we could have the best of both worlds. We can still put our stuff away from the main body and have all that. We also have the opportunity to have a recruiting event without doing hardly any of the leg work. The campground owner is already taking care of almost all of the logistics. We need to iron out exactly what is expected of us but I'm sure there will be plenty of time for "TRASH only" type stuff. I understand one or two homebrew shops are also participating. Maybe we can see if they would like to sponsor some prizes for our keg toss.

Part of our "Mission" as a club is "Educate our members and the public to the benefits and enjoyment of home-brewed
beer." (for those of you who don't make it to the last page of each and every newsletter). I think partnering with this event would be a great way to help us fullfill this part of our "mission"; I think in the long run it will save us money; and we could have a whole lot of fun with this.

If we do decide to do this, I'm gonna make a SteinBeer! Anyone that wants to help is welcome.

Picnic Date

Right now I think it's leaning toward the 29th, pending availability of the campground.

Edit: just leaned again. see above ^

Any date at the end of august is good for me...

Seeing that I cant make a single event in July (and there are so many good ones), my summer will have begun to wind down by august...

Lobbying for the 29th

Although I'll be in Virginia in August I'd really like to make it to the picnic this year. August 22nd is no good for me though. My kid is getting married on that day and it's the kind of thing I won't be able to miss even if I didn't already shell out $3500 for booze and beer that I don't even like.

So hey if you can at all make it for the 29th I promise to bring a keg or two of beach brew! I might even bring a newly found beer buddy.

Chip -- Still Happy, Still Healthy, Still Misbehaving!!!

SOUNDS GOOD CHIP!!!

We'll take the free beer on August 29th !!!

Chip's beer rocks the house!!!

29th

I'd also prefer the 29th of August...

Pete, Yes, we will get a group rate, although it's per person, it will be much less than Bennett acres and yes, they have a club house/lodge and a large tent with tables available, I don't have the rates on it yet but I am hoping it would fall in line with the group discount rates that are fair. I don't want to put a lot of numbers out there until things are set.

Keith, Yes, quite of few of us camp out...it's a lot of fun and all you have to do is stumble back to your tent. They have real bathrooms, showers and cabins can be rented if you don't want to camp.

Terry, I hear ya...August is a busy month...with Labor day, Octoberfest and the Big Pour all in Sept, it's pretty busy as well.

 Cheers and Beers Mark B

I always liked September.

I always liked September. August is a very busy month for many as it usually means the end of summer with people trying to fit it all in during the month.

TRASH Picnic

Marc,

I don't mind having the picnic in August at all. In fact, I'm looking forward to it. Either day works for me, but August 22 is a bit better for the wife and I.

As far as the campground is concerned. Any idea of what the charge would be for campers camping. Bennet Acre's charged $15 a head for camping. Would this place charge a fixed rate per campsite? Or would it be a similar deal to Bennet Acre's? I'm fine with either way, but think it makes more sense if the camping was on a campsite basis and not a per person sort of thing. A

Also, is there a pavilion we could use at this new campground? If so, is there a charge to rent it. I think Bennet Acre's charged ~$150 for the pavilion rental? Would this other place have similar rates?

Well, that's it for my questions. How do other people feel?
